More about Westport

Our stay at Paul and Linda's cottage was perfect! They are lovely hosts and we hope to come back one day. Westport itself was delightful. Lots of great pubs; many with live music in the evenings…good, thigh slapping, foot stomping, Irish tunes. As well, we have seen so much of Westport's beauty over the last few days; this is just a sampling.

On our first day there, we explored the area around town and visited Westport House; the home and acreage that was a site of one of Grace O'Malley's castles. A long line of her family have lived in and owned the estate ever since. The peaceful grounds included a 'sensory place' where one could sit for hours just listening to the bird song and the breeze in the trees.

The next day we cycled (on e-bikes) 20km along the Great Western Greenway and enjoyed breathtaking vistas of the ocean and fields of sheep and ancient farmsteads… just beautiful along with the personal sense of accomplishment for just 'doing it' ☘️👍. Off to Galway we go…

Very large swans in Westport!

This elk (dispatched in the 1700s) stood over 15’ tall.
