Did I mention we down-sized our luggage? It seems we felt it necessary to pack for all kinds of weather and our (older, heavy) suitcases were packed to the gills. That might be okay for one or two legs of a journey or if you're 6' tall and a rugby player… but we found it exhausting. Dragging heavy suitcases on and off buses and trains and moving them long distances between, is no picnic. Sooo, with the help of Janet in Dublin, we treated ourselves to smaller and much lighter suitcases with proper wheels (and we posted a box of things we weren't needing home). We now look and feel like intrepid travellers… pulling proper-sized suitcases that roll freely and can be lifted quickly up the stairs, and wearing small backpacks.
So, here we are in Westport, a town on the coast of Ireland. This is the start of our southward moving visit of the west coast. Kathy found a cute little place for our stay here. It's a renovated carriage house and is described as a self-catering cottage. It's clean and quite new and centred in town… a great place to call home for a few days.
It rained overnight and may or may not rain more today; we shall see. Tomorrow is supposed to be dryer and we hope to rent some bicycles and head off to visit Achill Island. This is apparently where the pirate queen Gracie O'Malley was born. We'll be cycling the Greenway there and back to a drop off spot.
Aha! The sun's coming out… must get going 😄. Hope all is well with each of you.
Always… CJ
